Sleep Your Way to Healthy Skin

Your nighttime Z's do more than just help rest your mind and body

Getting a good night’s sleep is essential to skin health; not getting enough sleep actually ages your skin. A lack of sleep causes puffiness, dark circles under the eyes, visible dryness and increased wrinkling. Poor sleep also increases the likelihood of acne breakouts and the severity of immune-related skin disorders, like psoriasis and eczema.

It’s not just the amount of sleep that can affect skin health, but the quality also plays a role. While you sleep, your skin renews itself and collagen production is accelerated (more collagen = firmer skin and fewer wrinkles). If the body doesn’t go into this repair mode, damaged cells accumulate, causing skin to age faster.

PCA SKIN professionals say you should aim for six to eight hours of uninterrupted sleep a night to allow the body to properly renew itself. The well-rested not only feel better, but preserve their youthful glow longer!
